Raku Penny Vase

$550.00

Originating from Japan, Raku is the dramatic process of taking hot ceramics out of a kiln and placing them directly into a container holding combustibles which create a flammable atmosphere. Results can be unexpected and unpredictable with this ancient technique.

This specific piece was glazed with a copper carbonate glaze and finished with an alcohol wash once pulled from the hot kiln. This glaze and alcohol combination creates an iridescent finish and continues to patina over time.

Measures loosely 11.75 × 8.75 x 3.5 inches

Due to the nature of Raku, objects are not fully vitrified which means object is not 100% water tight. Either use dried flowers or be cautious of surfaces if you put water in this vessel.
